DB Cargo signs 100 locomotive framework deal
GERMANY: DB Cargo and Siemens Mobility announced the signing of a framework agreement covering up to 100 Vectron electric locomotives on January 18, with a firm order for an initial 40 to be delivered between February 2019 and June 2020 for use on cross-border freight services.
The 160 km/h, 6·4 MW multisystem locomotives will be equipped with ETCS as well as national train control systems.
Steffen Bobsien, Head of European Assets & Technology at DB Cargo, said the Vectron MS was ‘a particularly energy-efficient locomotive that enables cross-border transport without changing locomotives’.
The latest framework agreement follows a previous contract signed in August 2017 which included a firm order for 60 locomotives with options for 40 more which have not yet been exercised.
Siemens Mobility has now sold more than 800 Vectron locomotives to a total of 41 customers, and has obtained authorisation for operation in Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland and Turkey.
- Alstom has now installed its Atlas 200 ETCS Level 2 equipment on a total of 500 Vectron locomotives for 37 operators.
