Alaska Railroad awards PTC contract
USA: On April 2 Wabtec Corp announced the signing of contracts worth $16·6m for the implementation of Positive Train Control on the 840 km Alaska Railroad, which operates freight and passenger services.
Wabtec is to provide PTC equipment for 54 locomotives, along with its Interoperable Electronic Train Management System and its computer-aided Train Management & Dispatch System for centralised traffic control and track warrant control. This technology is to be fully interoperable with PTC being implemented by Class I railways elsewhere in the USA.
‘Wabtec understood our needs and delivered the computer-aided dispatch that is the cornerstone of our PTC project’, said Eileen Reilly, Vice-President of Advanced Train Control Systems & Technology at Alaska Railroad. ‘We look forward to our continued successful relationship as we implement the I-ETMS PTC’.
Last year Alaska Railroad awarded TÜV Rheinland Mobility’s Rail Safety Consulting division a contract to assist with the development and deployment of PTC.
