Preferred bidder for Gdańsk airport line
POLAND: A consortium of Budimex and Ferrovial Agroman has been chosen as preferred bidder to build Phase II of the Pomeranian Metropolitan Railway linking Gdańsk Wrzeszcz with Gdańsk Airport. The 716m złoty contract is expected to be signed in April. Construction is due to start in late 2013, for completion by April 2015.
The second phase of the project involves the rehabilitation of a line abandoned after World War II. The double-track line will be 20 km long with eight stations.
It was initially planned to be electrified, but as trains will continue past the airport on non-electrified track, diesel traction was eventually chosen, with the possibility of future electrification. Promoter Pomorska Kolej Metropolitalna, a dedicated company established by Pomorskie voivodship, plans to purchase 10 DMUs for airport services.
- PKP PLK has named Astraldi as preferred bidder to upgrade the Kraków Airport line, which is to be rebuilt with a new station closer to the terminal buildings, as well as two intermediate stations. The 240·5m złoty project will be co-financed from EU funds.
