First Kaohsiung trams arrive
TAIWAN: The first low-floor trams for the Kaohsiung light rail project arrived in the city on September 11.
CAF is supplying a fleet of bidirectional trams from its Urbos family, equipped with CAF’s ACR onboard energy storage technology for catenary-free operation. The five-section vehicles are 34·2 m long with capacity for 250 passengers, and feature four doors on each side, as well as air conditioning. Maximum speed is 70 km/h.
The 22·1 km, 36-stop circular route is being built in three stages. Tracklaying on the initial 8·7 km section from Asian New Bay Area to Sizihwan District started in April. Revenue services are expected to commence in October 2015.
