São Paulo monorail contract awarded
BRAZIL: Scomi Engineering has been awarded a 504·6m ringgit contract for additional works on metro Line 17 (Gold Line) in São Paulo, the Malaysian company announced on June 1.
The contract for rolling stock and electro-mechanical systems including signalling, communications and power supply follows on from a contract awarded in 2013 covering design, systems integration and rolling stock components for the driverless monorail. The trains will have a maximum speed of 80 km/h and will be fitted with traction equipment supplied by Strukton.
Rolling stock is to be produced at a factory that Scomi is building in the area. In March work started on the R$50m, 98 000 m2 monorail, metro and light rail rolling stock manufacturing plant.
Due to open in the first quarter of 2018, the 8·8 km line is being built by a consortium of Grupo MPE, Andrade Gutierrez, CR Almeida and Scomi Rail. When complete, line capacity will be 20 600 passengers/h per direction.
