Léman Express cross-border EMU unveiled

11 Apr 2019

EUROPE: The first completed Alstom electric multiple-unit for the Léman Express cross-border regional passenger service between Genève in Switzerland and destinations in France was unveiled at the manufacturer's Reichshoffen factory on April 10.

SNCF has ordered 17 EMUs from Alstom’s Coradia Polyvalent family, known as Régiolis by the operator. The order was placed on behalf of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region which is financing the fleet. Deliveries are expected to begin this summer, for entry into service in mid-December.

Alstom has now sold 312 trains from its Coradia range to nine French regions. The Léman Express sets are 72 m long with a maximum speed of 140 km/h. They are equipped with ETCS and can work under 25 kV 50 Hz, 1·5 kV DC and 15 kV 16·7 Hz electrification systems.

The low-floor units have seven doors per side to optimise passenger flows at stations, all equipped with bridge plates. The 204 seats have individual reading lights and electrical sockets, and there are dedicated bicycle and luggage areas.
