Lubelskie orders Pesa DMUs
POLAND: Lubelskie voivodship has signed a contract with a consortium of Pesa and ZNTK MM for the supply of three two-car DMUs to operate the Rejowiec – Zamość/Bełżec, Lublin – Stalowa Wola and Lublin – Lubartów lines. Under the deal valued at 24m złoty, the first unit is due to be delivered in April 2013 and other two by the end of September.
Lubuskie is also making progress with the 2·2 km branch now under construction to serve the new airport at Świdnik, which is expected to cost 14m złoty to complete. The line is being built by Expol, and infrastructure manager PKP PLK has called tenders for electrification work, which has to be finished by December 7, ahead of the planned opening of the airport 10 days later.
Electrification of the branch will enable the voivodship to operate the Lublin - Świdnik – Airport service with five EN57 EMUs that were modernised last year by ZNTK MM and Pesa with new IGBT traction converters and AC motors.
