Rail Week a ‘resounding success’
UK: The inaugural pan-industry Rail Week which set out to inform students, parents and careers advisers about opportunities in the railway industry was a ‘resounding success’ according to networking organisation Young Rail Professionals.
Held from June 27 to July 3, Rail Week aimed to highlight the diverse and rewarding opportunities available in the industry, and inspire a generation of young people towards careers in the sector to help address the skills shortage.
More than 70 organisations held more than 150 site visits, educational activities and behind-the-scenes events, as well as dozens of school outreach sessions when Rail Week Ambassadors went into classrooms to talk directly to school pupils about the industry. The ambassador programme was organised in partnership with educational charity STEMNET.
Rail Week was co-ordinated by YRP, with funding and support from organisations including the Department for Transport, Department for Business, Innovation & Skills, Rail Delivery Group and the Railway Industry Association.
