Flexible season tickets for part-time commuters
UK: Flexible season tickets which aim to reduce the cost of travel for part-time workers were introduced on June 1 by c2c, the operator of commuter services between London and southeast Essex.
The new Flexi-Season is a ‘digital carnet’ of 10 individual tickets purchased online in a single transaction, loaded onto a c2c smart card when this is touched against a gate reader. For journeys made within a period of six months, the Flexi-Season will typically provide a 5% discount on the standard peak fare, with an additional 10% discount applying to off-peak travel.
‘We are really excited to launch the UK’s first season ticket specifically designed for part-time workers’, said c2c Managing Director Julian Drury. ‘This new ticket means that part-time commuters can now get full-time value from their rail ticket.’
‘Passengers, particularly those who commute part-time, will really welcome this flexible season ticket’, said David Sidebottom, Passenger Director at Transport Focus, the official consumer watchdog for rail passengers. ‘This is exactly the sort of new product we want to see smart card technology being used to offer.’
