High Speed Trains of the World

01 Apr 2008

Book review

by Mikio Miura and Yoshihiro Yakiyama

This 368-page paperback provides a comprehensive Japanese-language guide to the world’s passenger trains running at 200 km/h or above, including both trains using dedicated high speed lines and the fastest trains running on conventional lines.

Heavily illustrated in full colour, there are exterior and interior views of the trains, as well as illustrations showing the onboard services, train crew and catering.

An appendix provides tables of dimensions for high speed train types operating in France, Germany, Spain, Japan and selected other countries. Further tables looking at speeds and timetable performance draw on Railway Gazette International's latest World Speed Survey. A glossary explains terms such as ERTMS in Japanese.
