WESTERN Australia's government has placed an A$437m order for 31 three-car 130 km/h EMUs with a joint venture of Bombardier and EDI Rail. Deliveries are scheduled for mid-2004 to 2006, and there is an option for a further 10 units. The commuter trains will be used on the southern leg of the Perth Urban Rail Development project.
Assembly will be carried out at the joint venture's Maryborough site in Queensland. EDI Rail will build the stainless steel bodyshells and bogies. Bombardier's A$120m share of the construction includes design work, and the supply of propulsion and electrical systems from the Västerås plant in Sweden.
The price includes the provision of stabling and workshop facilities and a 15-year maintenance package, in which Bombardier has a A$99m share.
