Finland: Talgo has been awarded a contract to supply 15 car-carrying 160 km/h wagons to VR by May 2005, with an option for 15. It will also build 20 car wagons for Scandinavian Motortransport AB in Sweden by February 2004, with an option for 10.
Germany: Eicholz GmbH is to lease from FCM Rail Ltd a 20-stone switch and crossing rail grinder supplied by Harsco Track Technologies.

India: Mumbai Rail Vikas Corp is to re-invite tenders for supply up to 100 nine-car EMUs under a technology transfer deal involving ICF of Chennai. Only Bombardier responded to a similar tender issued in March 2002.
South Korea: Kyosan Electric Manufacturing Co and Daewoo Engineering have received a ´1·6bn order for signalling equipment for Pusan metro Line 3. Opening is planned for 2007.
Luxembourg: CFL has placed a €121m order with Bombardier for 18 driving and 67 intermediate double-deck push-pull coaches for delivery between November 2004 and September 2005.
Spain: Bids are to be invited for civil works on the 8·9 km Elche - Murcia section of the Madrid - Murcia high speed line, expected to take 32 months to complete within a budget of €64·2m.
Civil works on the 6·5 km Puebla Larga - Alzira section of the Madrid - Valencia high speed line are to go out to tender. A budget of €28·8m has been set for completion within 24 months.
Bids are to be invited for civil works on the 2 km Soto del Real - Miraflores de la Sierra section of the Madrid - Valladolid high speed line, including a 1848m viaduct with piers up to 80m high. Work will take 30 months at a cost of €40·8m.
Sweden: Regional authority Skånetrafiken has ordered 11 additional X31 EMUs to expand services.
Switzerland: Ascom has won a SFr28m order from SBB to supply 384 ticket vending machines and upgrade 675.
Ukraine: S&T System Integration & Technology Distribution and Ukrainian Business Information are to provide computerised ticketing infrastructure for two of UZ's regions under a contract valued at over €2m.
United Kingdom: Direct Rail Services is to lease 10 Class 66 locos from Porterbrook, to be delivered later this year.
Alcatel has been awarded a €130m contract to replace Network Rail's communications infrastructure with an advanced optical transmission network for signalling, control and secure voice data traffic, for completion in 2006.
Network Rail has awarded six 10-year structures examination contracts. Owen Williams has won work in the Eastern Region and Great Western Zone, Mouchel in the Midland Region, Parkman in the North West Zone, and Atkins Rail in Southern Region and Scotland Zone.
Network Rail announced on March 20 that six companies had won 10-year contracts for detailed assessments of structures. Great Western Zone will be covered by WSP Civils with Pell Frischmann Consultants Ltd as prime subcontractor, Owen Williams will work in Midland Region with Veryards, and Babtie Group will cover Scotland Zone. Veryards with Parkman will handle the North West Zone; in the Southern Region the job has gone to Mott MacDonald with Mouchel and Rail First. Work in the Eastern Region will be carried out by Corus Rail Consultancy with Bullen Consultants and Owen Williams Railways.
Corus Cogifer has received a £4·5m order to supply 66 sets of RT60 switches and crossings for use on the West Coast Route Modernisation.
Wabtec Rail has been awarded a $7m contract to supply another 50 Autoballaster wagons to Network Rail. 190 have already been built (RG 12.00 p824).

USA: On February 21 New Jersey Transit awarded EE Cruz Construction a $22·6m contract to build a 259m double-track tunnel on the 1·6 km Penn station - Broad Street station extension of the Newark City Subway.
Taking advantage of low market prices, rolling stock lessor CIT Rail Resources has placed orders with Johnstown America, Greenbrier, American Railcar Industries and Trinity for a total of 3050 wagons to be delivered over the next year.
Extending an existing contract due to expire on June 30, Southern California Regional Rail Authority has awarded Bombardier a seven-year rolling stock maintenance contract with a three-year option. Marta Metroplex was awarded track rehabilitation contracts worth $6m.
