Brazil: Balfour Beatty Rail Power Systems has been awarded a R$21·7m contract to electrify the Recife - Cajueiro Seco route for Metrorec at 3 kV DC. The contract includes 14 km of double track and the construction of two substations.
Cameroon: Nine General Motors GT18MC 1600hp Co-Co locos were sent to South Africa for servicing in March. Seven replacements leased from Spoornet are expected to arrive in Douala from Durban this month.
Canada: CN ordered 60 General Electric Dash 9-44CW 4400hp locos on March 6, for delivery by the end of 2004. The units will be maintained at CN's Symington workshops and four other locations under a 1997 agreement with GE.
Congo: Six additional GM GT26MC 2875hp Co-Co diesels are to be leased to the Congo-Ocean Railway by Spoornet.
France: SNCF announced on March 19 that it will exercise options for 40 more ATER diesel railcars at a cost of €58m. This will take the total of ATER sets on order to 299. SNCF also ordered 10 more Z2N four-car double-deck EMUs for Paris suburban services for €75m.
Kiepe Elektrik is supplying 14 sets of 750VDC 220 kW traction equipment for 45 km/h TME locos being assembled by CFD to haul works trains on the Paris metro from 2003.
Greece: Hellenic Railways Organisation has picked a consortium of Gnomon, Avax and Eteth for the second phase of the 35 km link from Athens to Spata Airport (RG 1.01 p40). Ergose, OSE's construction arm, awarded the first phase to a consortium led by local engineering company Aktor working with Hellenic Technodomiki and TEB.

Italy: Ferrovia Trento-Malè has confirmed an €43m order for 12 two-car 120 km/h Coradia EMUs with a floor height of 300mm from Alstom Ferroviaria (RG 3.02 p113). Testing of the prototype is due to begin in March 2004.
South Africa: Requests for Prequalification for the Gautrain rail link between Pretoria, Johannesburg and Johannesburg airport were issued on February 25; bids are due by April 5.
Spain: GIF has awarded Inocsa Ingeniería a €1m contract to undertake design and supervision of civil works on the Soto del Real - Miraflores section of the Madrid - Valladolid high speed line. This includes a viaduct 2·5 km long.
