Mülheim orders Flexity Classic trams
GERMANY: Mülheim transport authority MVG has ordered 10 Bombardier Flexity Classic trams at a cost of €27m.
The three-module bidirectional vehicles are identical to the 27 trams ordered by Essen transport authority EVAG in December 2011. They will be 30 m long and 2 300 mm wide, with a capacity of 172 passengers. They are to be produced at Bombardier’s Bautzen factory, with electrical equipment supplied from Mannheim and bogies from Siegen. Deliveries are due to begin in August 2015.
The transport authorities of Mülheim, Essen and Duisburg formed the joint transport agency Via in 2010. MVG Managing Director Klaus-Peter Wandelenus said: ‘With this tram we have achieved a high level of standardization which will result in short servicing and maintenance periods. The tram’s operating efficiency over the entire lifecycle is of utmost importance. There is no room for isolated solutions and technical experiments.’
