President digs in

01 Jun 2002

NAMIBIAN President Sam Nujoma has decided to put his free time to good use, by helping to build the TransNamib Northern Railway Extension from Tsumeb to the Oshikango free trade zone and the Angolan border.

'I have decided to use some of my spare time to go and voluntarily participate in the construction of the railway line from time to time', Nujoma told members of parliament in his annual state-of-the-nation address.

In a more practical attempt to help speed construction, Nujoma has also instructed the Ministry of Defence to assign a battalion of soldiers to assist with the work.
