TGVmax offers unlimited travel for less than a car-share
FRANCE: A new online ticketing product offering passengers aged 16 to 27 unlimited travel on long-distance services for €79 a month was announced by SNCF on January 23. TGVmax will be available on 94% of TGV and Intercités services and on every day of the year, with the exception of those trains that see the most business traffic.
TGVmax will enable young travellers ‘to go where they want, when they want, without worrying about their budget and with all the comfort of high speed travel’, according to SNCF. It points out that the monthly fee is less than the cost of a return car-sharing journey between Paris and Marseille.
Bookings for travel in second class can be made up to 30 days in advance. With an introductory monthly fee of €1 available until February 28, SNCF reported that over 10 000 people had subscribed to the new offer as of 18.00 on January 23, 53% aged between 20 and 24.
TGVmax introduces ‘a completely new way of travelling’, according to Voyages SNCF Director General Rachel Picard, that would be ‘more flexible, more instinctive and without restrictions’. She added: ‘we want to help young people to travel more and to travel better.’
