Western Dedicated Freight Corridor contract awarded

INDIA: Dedicated Freight Corridor Corp of India Ltd has awarded a consortium of Larsen & Toubro and Japan’s Sojitz a 66·7bn contract covering civil and track works, freight terminals and bridges on the 626 km Rewari – Iqbalgarh section of the 1 483 km Western DFC, which will link Delhi with Jawaharlal Nehru Port near Mumbai.

The contract is the largest to be funded by an official development assistance loan from Japan International Cooperation Agency. Japanese input is required, and consortium leader Sojitz will undertake overall project management and procure Japanese-made head hardened rails.

A consortium of Ircon, Leighton Contractors and Mitsui had also bid for the contract.

Scheduled for completion in mid-2017, the double-track DFC will be electrified at 25 kV AC and suitable for 25 tonne axleloads and 100 km/h double-stack trains.
