India: Jaipur Metro Rail Corp has appointed Mott MacDonald to advise on tendering the Rs100bn project to build two metro lines totalling 35 km by mid-2013.
Iraq: The Kurdistan regional government has awarded three contracts each worth around US$2·2m for tram feasibility studies. Italian firms FG Tecnopolo and SGI will look into a 60 km tramway in Arbil and a 50 km system in Sulaymaniyah, and Romanian firm Terra Nova will study a 40 km network in Dahuk.
UK: Telent is to use IP-based technology to modernise Merseyrail’s long line public address systems covering 66 stations.
USA: Amtrak has selected Nomad Digital technology to expand its AmtrakConnect free passenger wi-fi service to more than 450 Amfleet coaches used on Northeast Corridor and West Coast trains by the end of the year.
OCLMedia has installed Firetide wi-fi equipment to eliminate blindspots experienced by Amtrak passengers in tunnels under the East and Hudson rivers in New York and within Penn Station.
