Alstom awarded €135m EMU maintenance contract

24 Aug 2017

SWEDEN: Arriva has awarded Alstom a €135m contract to maintain 99 Coradia Nordic EMUs owned by the Skånetrafiken regional transport authority. The contract runs for eight years from December 2018, aligning with the next Pågatåg operating contract which Skånetrafiken has awarded to incumbent Arriva.

The next operating contract is designed to put more emphasis on service quality, with the operator being responsible for the maintenance of rolling stock and stations.

Alstom is to undertake all maintenance, except cleaning, for the fleet of 69 existing EMUs and 30 currently being delivered. It plans to deploy its TrainTracer predictive maintenance system as part of its HealthHub platform, automating tasks such as issuing alerts and anticipating repairs. Work will be undertaken at a depot at Raus in Helsingborg.

The contract means that Alstom will be maintaining all Coradia Nordic vehicles in Sweden, enabling cross-operator synergies. ‘Alstom knows the trains better than anyone else, and we have great confidence in their maintenance methods’, said Arriva Sweden CEO Johan Åhlander. ‘We already work with Alstom in a similar set up for Östgötapendeln where we have beaten the record for train availability several times.’
