Gold Coast light rail Stage 2 contractor selected
AUSTRALIA: Concessionaire GoldLinQ has selected CIMIC subsidiary CPB Contractors as preferred bidder to design and build the second phase of Gold Coast light rail. Contract signing is expected in mid-April. Construction is due to begin in April and end in late 2017, with passenger services expected to commence in 2018.
The northern extension would run from Gold Coast University Hospital to Helensvale, where interchange would be provided with Queensland Rail services. The 7·3 km route would have three stops, with 1 000 park-and-ride spaces at Parkwood and 400 at Helensvale.
The federal government is providing A$95m towards the project, the city council A$55m and the Queensland government A$420m.
