ITALY: An automated peoplemover linking Galileo Galilei Airport with Pisa Centro railway station was inaugurated on March 18. Travel is free until March 26.

Pisa Mover services take 4 min to complete the 1·8 km route, which includes an intermediate station at San Giusto/Aurelia, where there is a 1 200-space car park. Services operate between 06.00 and midnight, with peak frequencies of 5 min. The line has a design capacity of 1 220 passengers/h per direction, and ridership is expected to reach 2·5 million passengers per year.

A consortium of Condotte d’Acqua, Leitner, Agudio and Inso Sistemi was selected for the PPP concession to design, build and operate the line. Leitner has supplied two three-car MiniMetro units. Each rubber-tyred, cable-driven set has a capacity of 400 passengers, including 107 seated, and a maximum speed of 40 km/h.
