AUSTRALIA: Metro Trains Sydney has awarded Alstom a 15-year contract to maintain the 22 six-car Metropolis automated trainsets, Urbalis 400 CBTC and point machines which the company is supplying for the 36 km Sydney Metro Northwest project.

Alstom is to deploy its HealthHub maintenance platform, which is designed around condition-based predictive maintenance rather than a mileage-based approach. This will be supported by data capture equipment including TrainScanner, Track Tracer and Catenary Tracer.

Announcing the contract on July 11, Alstom said more than 50 full time jobs would be created. Mobilisation is expected to start in mid-2018, ready for the opening of the line in the first half of 2019.
