CANADA: Alstom opened an assembly plant for light rail vehicles in Brampton, Ontario on April 10.

The factory will be used to produce 61 light rail vehicles that Greater Toronto & Hamilton Area transport authority Metrolinx ordered in May 2017. The C$528m contract includes an option for up to 44 more vehicles.

Alstom is to supply 17 100% low-floor Citadis Spirit vehicles for the Finch West LRT project, with the other 44 to be put into service on the Hurontario LRT project.

The factory is expected to create 100 to 120 direct jobs and a further 400 to 500 indirect jobs.
