FRANCE: Paris public transport authority RATP has selected Alstom to renovate up to 41 MI84 four-car electric multiple-units in service on Line B of the Paris RER network. The €75m contract is expected to be approved by Ile-de-France transport authority STIF on March 22.

The base order covers 31 trainsets, with the first two due to be completed in 2019. Work will take place at Alstom’s Reichshoffen site and will include an increase in seating capacity from 216 to 312 seats per car. Other internal changes will include new floors, grab bars, LED lighting and CCTV. Air-conditioning will be installed, electronic equipment replaced and a new external livery applied.

The MI84 EMUs were supplied from Alstom’s Valenciennes site and entered service in 1985.
