RUSSIA: St Petersburg tram operator Gorelektrotrans announced on May 6 that PK TS was the sole bidder for a 2bn rouble contract to supply 21 three-section trams.

It is thought that other producers did not bid owing to the tight delivery schedule: tenders were called on April 15 and all 21 vehicles are due in service by September.

PK TS is to supply its fully low-floor Vityaz-M model. The unidirectional trams will be 28 m long and 2 500 mm wide with capacity for 170 passengers including 50 seated. They are due to operate in the southwest of the city, serving metro feeder routes in new residential districts where most tracks were renewed in the past five years.
