Siemens is to supply 35 three-car trainsets for the Blue Line extension in Bangkok.

THAILAND: Bangkok Expressway & Metro and CH Karnchang have selected a consortium of Siemens and ST Electronics to supply railway systems for the Blue Line extension of the Bangkok metro.

Siemens is to supply rolling stock, signalling, power supplies and depot equipment, and will maintain the extension for 10 years.

To be built at its Wien factory in Austria, the 35 three-car trainsets will have a maximum speed of 80 km/h and capacity for 800 passengers.

Opening of the 28 km extension with 19 stations is planned for 2019-20. It consists of an extension from the current southern terminus of Hua Lamphong to Lak Song and a branch from Tha Phra to Bang Sue.
