The fully automated trains are expected to be delivered from the supplier’s Changwon plant between mid-2024 and 2027.

The cars will be smaller than those on other lines in Singapore, as the elevated line has been threaded through a built-up area that requires sharp curves. They will have wider doorways to facilitate rapid boarding and alighting.

The contract awarded on February 7 also includes an automatic track inspection system for detecting and diagnosing rail faults in real time, as part of LTA’s preventative and predictive maintenance cycle.

The JRL is due to open in 2026; an operating contract has not yet been awarded.
