Siemens Mobility awarded US locomotive support contract
USA: San Diego’s North County Transit District has awarded Siemens Mobility a 20-year contract covering technical support and material management services for up to nine Charger locomotives.
GTR launches £55m Electrostar refurbishment
UK: Govia Thameslink Railway and leasing company Porterbrook have begun a £55m five-year programme to modernise 214 Bombardier Transportation Class 377 Electrostar electric multiple-units operated on Southern services, and 56 similar Class 387 units used on Gatwick Express and Great Northern services.

BELGIUM: A prototype automated system for loading pallets onto railway wagons and a concept for a multimodal chemical logistics hub in the Port of Antwerpen were presented by freight operator Lineas and Belgian chemical industry association Essenscia on September 15.
Ethiopian avocados exported by train
ETHIOPIA: Avocados for export to Europe have been transported by rail for the first time, with a pilot refrigerated consignment of 24 tonnes of fruit travelling 750 km from Modjo Dry Port to Djibouti for onward delivery by sea.

AUSTRALIA: The government of Victoria has exercised an option for Bombardier Transportation to supply a further 18 three-car VLocity diesel multiple-units from its Dandenong factory.
Mobile train roof access platform
UK: Harmill Systems has developed a battery-powered mobile train roof access platform with a built-in crane.
