CANADA: Montréal metro operator STM has ordered a further 17 nine-car trainsets from a consortium of Bombardier Transportation and Alstom, the suppliers announced on November 12. Bombardier’s share of the €300m contract is €188m and Alstom’s share is €112m.

The order is a follow-on from a contract for 52 sets signed in October 2010. As with the original build, final assembly of the rubber-tyred trainsets will be undertaken at Bombardier’s factory in La Pocatière. Alstom’s site in Sorel-Tracy will supply bogies, motors, communications, passenger information systems and CCTV. The contract stipulates 60% Canadian content.

Bombardier Transportation’s Americas Region President Benoit Brossoit called the rolling stock ‘a premium mobility experience’, while Alstom Canada General Manager Angelo Guercioni hailed the Montréal metro network as ‘iconic’.
