GERMANY: Hamburger Hochbahn has exercised options to purchase a further 32 three-car DT5 metro trainsets from a consortium of Alstom and Bombardier Transportation.

Alstom’s share of the €186m contract is €100m and includes mechanical systems; Bombardier Transportation will supply electrical and traction equipment. The trains will be assembled at Alstom’s Salzgitter factory and are expected to enter service from January 2021.

The 40 m long sets will have capacity for 336 passengers including 96 seated and two wheelchair spaces. The stainless-steel bodied cars will be equipped with regenerative braking and air-conditioning.

The order will take the total number of DT5 sets that Alstom and Bombardier are supplying to HHA to 163. The first units entered passenger service in Hamburg in 2012.
