Four tram lines are planned to be built in Bologna.

ITALY: The city of Bologna has begun the process of calling tenders for the design and construction of the 15 km Red Line tramway, which is planned as the first route of a proposed four-line network totalling 57 km.

The municipality approved the Red Line project on July 28, with €3·3m allocated for planning and designing and €331·5m for construction.

A fleet of 26 trams is to be procured separately, with the vehicles to be equipped for catenary-free operation in the historic city centre.

Design work for the Red Line is scheduled to be completed by the end of September 2022, with opening planned for 2026.
