Cable Liner peoplemover in Venice.

ITALY: Venezia transport operator AVM has awarded a contract for the deployment of an EMV contactless payment system covering its network of 149 water buses, speedboats, motorboats and ferries, more than 150 wharfs, 540 buses, 20 guided buses and a peoplemover, which carry up to 120 million passengers/year.

The contract has been awarded to a collaboration of Conduent Transportation and Elavon, supported by Visa, with implementation to begin in 2023.

Conduent is to supply the infrastructure, including 1 900 validators, while Elavon will handle the end-to-end process for credit and debit card payments.

The system will support NFC-enabled devices such as smartphones and smartwatches with digital wallets, with best price fare calculations.

‘We want to be sure that our system is accessible and convenient for residents and tourists’, said Giovanni Seno, General Manager of Gruppo AVM. ‘Bringing these leading companies together from the beginning allows us to meet the needs of our customers efficiently and in a timely manner.’
