FRANCE: RATP has awarded Hitachi Rail a further maintenance contract covering signalling and train control systems on nine Paris metro lines and seven tram routes.

The four-year, renewable €33m contract builds on ‘more than a century of partnership between Hitachi Rail’s French entity and the Paris metro’, the contractor said; Hitachi’s predecessors include CSEE, which built and then maintained several metro lines and was bought by Ansaldo STS in 1996. Hitachi took a majority stake in Ansaldo STS in 2015.

The scope of work also includes assisting RATP with track work, and Hitachi maintenance teams will operate around the clock, seven days a week.

‘This contract demonstrates RATP’s trust in the services and technologies deployed by Hitachi Rail to contribute to sustainable urban mobility in the Paris region’, said Gilles Pascault, President of Hitachi Rail in France.
