The announcement on March 30 follows the £37m Phase 4 contract awarded in March 2021, for which most of the civil works are now underway. The three-year Phase 5 covers GRIP 5-8, going live in December 2024.

The Three Bridges Rail Operating Centre will control 302 new signal equivalent units, 494 axle-counters, and 82 new TPWS units linked by 86 500 m of signalling cable.

The project forms part of the Major Signalling Framework Agreement for the Southern Region which was awarded to Alstom in 2020.

‘Our “one team” collaborative and trusted relationship with Network Rail allows us to openly share lessons learned and returns on experiences from one project to the other; enabling an efficient and cost-effective programme for Network Rail, while deploying the latest in digital technologies’, said Jason Baldock, Alstom’s Managing Director, Digital & Integrated Solutions.
