UK: British Steel has supplied Drax power station with Zinoco corrosion resistant coated rail for use at a level crossing where significant rail damage had been identified during a track renewal programme.

The coating provides a barrier to corrosion, with enhanced impact resistance compared to previous treatments, and also provides sacrificial protection even if areas of the coating are breached.

‘Zinoco was designed for use in environments where corrosion determines rail life, such as the level crossing at Drax where it’s just been installed’, said Richard Bell, British Steel’s Commercial Director, Rail. ‘We were pleased to support Drax on its track renewal programme and we’re delighted to see Zinoco, which was developed at our Scunthorpe headquarters, being used by a growing number of rail operators.’
