UK: Transport for London has awarded Gibson’s Engineering a contract to overhaul 23 engineering wagons to extend their lives by eight years. The work at the St Rollox site at Springburn in Glasgow is expected to take two years and generate 40 jobs.

The former Caledonian Railway workshop passed through various owners before being closed by Gemini Rail in 2019. In 2021 it was purchased and refurbished by businessman David Moulsdale at cost of £10m, and in 2024 it was reopened by Gibson’s Engineering as a rail manufacturing, maintenance and repair facility.
‘This contract shows that we are well on our way to seeing “The Caley” thrive again, with a rapidly expanding workforce and significant new projects’, Gibson’s Engineering Managing Director Fraser Gibson said on June 9.

Tom Cunnington, Head of Logistics & Manufacturing at TfL, said ‘our extensive supply chain supports growth and opportunities right across the UK, with around two-thirds of our suppliers based outside London, and nearly a third of our overall spend and resulting economic benefit therefore felt outside of London.’
