EUROPE: The Rail Cluster for South East Europe academic and industry group and the UK’s Rail Alliance are to hold a virtual rail summit highlighting business opportunities on May 18.

The event, supported by the UK Department for International Trade, the British-Serbian Chamber of Commerce, the South East Europe Rail Research & Innovation Network and the University of Birmingham, will cover opportunities associated with rail investment in the region, plans for reciprocal trade missions this autumn, and the SEE Mobility Fair which is to be held in Beograd on September 15-16.

‘The virtual rail summit will bring together an impressive array of stakeholders from industry, academia and government’, said Bojana Arsic, Director at the Department for International Trade at the British embassy in Beograd.

Current developments and plans for growth will be presented by the South East Europe Rail Research & Innovation Network, which was founded last year by the Rail Cluster for South East Europe and the universities of Beograd, Zagreb and Birmingham and has rapidly grown to include universities and rail industry organisations from across the region.

‘The Western Balkans including Serbia is undertaking significant investment in rail infrastructure over the next few years and UK participation is welcomed’, said Richard Robinson, Executive Director of the British Serbian Chamber of Commerce. ‘The Chamber is working hard to promote UK interest in the sector, supporting members to take advantage of the opportunities that arise.’
