UK: Additional sustainability measures funded through Network Rail’s Green Bank are being incorporated into a maintenance delivery building which the infrastructure manager is developing adjacent to Barnetby station in North Lincolnshire.
Henry Boot Construction is the main contractor, with built environment consultant Ridge leading on structural and architectural design.
A two-storey main building which Henry Boot Construction says will have ‘an attractive timber aesthetic’ will house welfare facilities, an office and stores. There will also be associated services infrastructure, a service yard, car park, additional storage and reconfigured roads.
Timber construction aims to reduce embodied carbon and improve thermal performance, with an optimised layout to maximise natural daylight and remove the need for uneconomic storage heaters. Other sustainability measures will include EV chargers, air-source heat pumps, triple-glazed windows and rooftop solar panels.
‘From the outset, we identified and delivered several sustainability measures designed to go beyond baseline requirements’, said Lee Powell, Managing Director at Henry Boot Construction. ‘These initiatives will significantly improve energy efficiency and reduce the project’s overall carbon footprint.’
Completion is planned by early 2026.
