sustainable stations

UK: The Sustainable Stations: Best Practice Guide has been published by the Rail Delivery Group, offering advice on ways stations can be made more environmentally friendly.

The intention is that operators, transport authorities and government can use the guide to agree what would be most effective on a case-by-case basis as new management contracts are agreed.

Examples of best practice cited include rainwater collection to cut water wastage at Birmingham New Street, solar panels at Accrington and wildflower zones at Perth.

‘Rail is already a green way to travel but we know there is more we can do’, said Robert Nisbet, Director of Nations & Regions at the Rail Delivery Group.
