UK: Network Rail has awarded Telent Technology a contract to roll-out free passenger wif-fi with ‘seamless connectivity and single sign-on’ at the 20 major stations which it manages directly.

This follows pilot schemes at London Euston and London Bridge. Deployment at the remaining stations is scheduled to begin with London Victoria in spring 2020 and take around a year to complete.

‘We all have smart phones and tablets now which means that journeys are no longer dead time, so the station experience shouldn’t be either’, said Network Rail Chief Executive Andrew Haines. ‘Our passengers expect seamless connectivity from their train to our stations, to their place of work, and to their homes, so I am pleased that millions of passengers who use our stations will soon have access to free, fast and secure wi-fi.’

  • LNER’s station and onboard wi-fi has been accredited under the Friendly Wi-Fi scheme which certifies that filters are in place preventing users from accessing pornography.
