The first of three HST sets owned by Angel Trains which were formerly used by GWR and Grand Central has been refurbished for use by East Midlands Trains. The work is being undertaken at Etches Park depot in Debry with the support of Loram, SNC-Lavalin and DG Design.

On September 12 contractor AmcoGiffen launched construction of Robroyston station between Stepps and Springburn on the Glasgow to Cumbernauld line. The station will serve local housing and a park and ride facility for people heading into Glasgow from the M80 motorway. Opening is scheduled for December 2019. The £14m cost is being met by from Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (£1·25m), Glasgow City Council (£5·9m) and Network Rail (£6·9m).

South Western Railway now offers users of its Touch smart card a Carnet product with 10 tickets at a 5% discount which can be used for a day of unlimited travel between the origin and destination stations. SWR also offers auto renewal of monthly season tickets with the 12th month free.

Network Rail is to replace the life-expired Pembroke Road and Milford Road bridges carrying the South Wales Main Line at Merlins Bridge, Haverfordwest, next year in a £4·25m project.

Nearly 20 000 people responded to the Rail Delivery Group's consultation on fare reform, which closed on September 10. Proposals will be put to the relevant governments in late autumn.

Network Rail has awarded sole bidder Pfisterer Ltd a five-year framework contract for the supply of between 6 000 and 12 000 coiled spring tensioning devices for 25 kV 50 Hz overhead electrification.

Network Rail has identified preferred options for extending the platforms at Manea and Whittlesea stations following a study commissioned by Fenland District Council on behalf of the Hereward Community Rail Partnership with funding from the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority.
