UK: Alstom has been recognised as a Trailblazing Employer in Stonewall’s Proud Employers Accreditation scheme for organisations demonstrating commitment to LQBTQ+ inclusion in the workplace.

The charity praised Alstom for adopting inclusive policies, focusing on intersectionality and initiating activities to drive forward inclusion across its supply chain and the wider rail sector.

Alstom and Journey organised what they say was the world’s first Pride parade on a train at the Greatest Gathering railway festival in Derby on August 2 2025. This won the Diversity & Inclusion in Rail award at Railway Gazette Group’s Rail Business Awards.

Alstom launched its biannual equality, diversity and inclusion census in 2017 to identify areas for improvement in the UK and Ireland. The following year it founded its Voices of Pride+ employee resource group for LGBTQ+ staff and their allies, with the aim of creating a more supportive and equitable workplace culture for everyone. More than 2 100 employees across the UK and Ireland have attended Alstom’s EDI training, and the company has taken its ‘Be the U in inclUsive’ roadshow to the majority of its 37 sites in the two countries.

‘Being recognised by Stonewall as a Trailblazing Employer is an enormous honour and a powerful validation of the journey we’re on at Alstom’, said Piers Wood, Managing Director Ireland & Senior Sponsor of Voices of Pride+ at Alstom, on March 26. ‘Our people are at the heart of this achievement. Their openness, advocacy and willingness to challenge and improve how we work has shaped a culture that celebrates diversity and drives meaningful change across our business and the wider rail sector.’

Alstom also works closely with charity Micro Rainbow, which benefits LGBTQI asylum seekers and refugees. It has hosted an employability day in Derby and funds a Moving On Officer providing one-to-one support in helping find employment, accessing skills training, pursuing further education and seeking financial support.
