UK: Leasing company Eversholt Rail has awarded Alstom a £20m contract to overhaul 398 power bogies from Southeastern’s Class 465 Networker electric multiple-unit fleet.
The mileage-based overhaul to be undertaken over two years includes wheel and traction motor replacement, paint removal and new paint application, replacement of specific bogie components, gearbox overhaul, axle inspection, electrical overhaul and testing of traction packages.
The project will support 50 skilled roles at Alstom’s UK Centre of Excellence for Bogie, Wheel & Traction Motor Overhaul in Crewe.
‘This award is a strong vote of confidence in Crewe’s capability and in the expertise of our people’, said Crewe Works General Manager Mark Derbyshire on December 23.
The EMUs entered passenger service from 1992 and the overhaul will enable Southeastern to keep operating them while a more accessible replacement fleet is procured.
