UK: Network Rail has awarded AtkinsRéalis a £98m three-year contract to upgrade signalling and telecoms under the Havant area relock and recontrol project, which will see control transferred from the Havant Area Signalling Centre to the Basingstoke Regional Operating Centre.
The contract was awarded through Network Rail’s £4bn Train Control Systems Framework, in which AtkinsRéalis secured a place in September 2024.
The company will act as principal contractor and designer, providing end-to-end design, project management and construction services for the scheme. To be undertaken during a series of blockades in 2026-28, the project covers 43 km of railway on the Portsmouth Direct Line with 11 stations, 10 interlockings and four level crossings and associated signalling power and telecommunications systems.
AtkinsRéalis will deploy its Advanced Signalling Method, which it said was the first rail systems integration product of its kind to gain formal product approval from Network Rail.
‘Our track record in the region, combined with our commitment to working collaboratively with the supply chain including SMEs, will support successful delivery of this complex program, improving reliability for communities and businesses across the region’, said Chris Ball, AtkinsRéalis President, UK & Ireland, on March 24.
