UK: More than 200 members of the Chartered Institution of Railway Operators attended its fifth Rail Ops conference on October 15. This was the first of the annual learning, discussion and networking events to be held in-person.
This year’s programme had four themes: integration; digital and data; devolved and private sector operations; and developing the operators of the future.
Speakers came from organisations including South Eastern Railway, Network Rail, East West Rail, the University of Birmingham, Network Rail High Speed, the Rail Freight Group, Arriva Rail London, First Rail Open Access, TransPennine Express and Chiltern Railways.

The Rail Ops conference is ‘a key event that brings together leaders and innovators from across the railway industry’, said Alberti Benson, Technical Director – Rail Operations at event sponsor WSP. ‘As the sector continues to evolve amidst significant technological, regulatory and environmental change, collaboration and knowledge-sharing have never been more important.’
CIRO Membership Manager Kelly Marklove said ‘Rail Ops has quickly become one of the most valued dates in our members’ calendar. To see it delivered in person for the first time, with such strong engagement and energy in the room, really underlines the importance of bringing our community together to share knowledge and shape the future of rail operations.’
Sessions were recorded and will soon be available for members to view via the CIRO website.
