UK: Leasing company Porterbrook has appointed James McGowan as Director of Public Affairs with effect from March 2.

McGowan has more than 20 years’ experience in politics and communications, most recently as transport policy adviser to Labour’s Shadow Transport Secretary Andy McDonald. Before that, he was Head of Policy & Communications at train drivers’ union ASLEF.

McGowan will work alongside Rupert Brennan Brown, who is currently Head of Communications & Engagement and will become Director of Stakeholder Engagement.

‘2020 is fast becoming a year of exciting change for the UK’s rail industry, and as a long-term strategic partner we are committed to playing our part and delivering for our customers’, said Porterbrook CEO Mary Grant on February 17. ‘At this critical time, James will help us deepen our engagement with key decision makers across the political spectrum, on a national and regional level, ensuring that Porterbrook’s private finance and asset management model continues to serve the whole industry.’
