THIS SPECIALIST book is aimed at people involved in the planning and execution of work on Germany's permanent way. Running to almost 800 pages, it provides comprehensive English-language information on the interplay of personnel, machinery and track materials on the 65 000?track-km network.

Updates in this sixth edition include coverage of ballastless track, and recent developments in machinery and methods. Techniques for the renewal and installation of tracks and turnouts are comprehensively described, including ballast cleaning, tamping and lining. The authors review formation improvement methods and the rectification of defects, familiarising the reader with inspection and scheduled maintenance tasks, and approval of completed works.
