Egyptian National Railways‘ Trans IT business and Italian company AlmavivA have signed an MoU for co-operation in technical projects, staff training and technology transfers.


FTS Tools has licensed Focused Technology Solutions’ range of battery-powered track maintenance tools, including the DrillEase sleeper drill, SpikeEase spike puller and LagEase lag screw inserter and remover. ‘In just over three years, Focused Technology has made an incredible impact on the railroad industry, and we’re here to take these transformative tools to the next level’, said FTS Tools President Van Fry on February 2.

Škoda Transportation has appointed Mike Niebling as Senior Vice-President of Global Sales and a board member. He will be responsible for worldwide sales, and in particular for sales of rolling stock, having accumulated 21 years of experience at his previous employer, Bombardier Transportation.

Leasing company Ermewa has appointed Vincent Metz as Chief Technical Officer tasked with significantly cutting maintenance turnaround times. He previously held senior positions at Air France-KLM linked to the optimisation and digitalisation of maintenance processes.

Swedish operator Vy Tåg has formed a partnership with Europcar under which passengers will receive discounts of up to 15% on car rental. Vy Tåg said the decision to choose Europcar was motivated by its wide range of electric and hybrid cars.

Cognitive Technologies Group has obtained Eurasian Economic Union approval for its Cognitive Pilot shunting locomotive driver assistance system developed with backing from Russia’s Sberbank. ‚ ‘This is another confirmation of the system’s high level of quality and safety, which gives us an additional opportunity for the mass production of Cognitive Rail Pilot on an industrial scale for several countries at once’, said CEO Olga Uskova.

US rail and industrial services company Pacific West has appointed Peter Touesnard as CEO. He was previously as Chief Commercial Officer at OmniTRAX and held various senior positions at RailAmerica.


Wagon leasing specialist GATX Corp has announced that Paul F Titterton will become President of its Rail North America business unit from April 22, succeeding Robert C Lyons, who is being promoted to group CEO on the same date.
