RUSSIA: The European Bank for Reconstruction & Development is considering providing a long-term loan of up to 1·5bn roubles to Ufa transport operator MUE for tramway construction and rehabilitation.

It will carry out due diligence on the project later this year, which will include a feasibility study.

The loan would be used for the rehabilitation of existing tram lines and the construction of a 4·9 km ‘fast tram’ link to connect the northern and southern parts of the network. These are currently isolated from each other, and the city is planning a ‘high capacity, fast and reliable service between the northern industrial zone and the southern main residential area’.
