SPAIN: Catalunya operator FGC has awarded four contracts for studies to estimate the construction costs, potential demand and operating characteristics for proposed tram-train networks totalling 280 km.

Ayesa Ingeniería y Servicios has been awarded a €88 200, eight month contract for the study of a proposed 41 km network which would link Roquetes, Tortosa and L’Aldea and L’Aldea, Amposta, la Ràpita and Alcana.

The company has also been awarded a €54 700 eight-month contract covering a 38 km network linking Manresa with Súria and Manresa, Sallent and Berga. The two lines would make use of existing FGC freight branches, with an extension from Sallent to Berga and an urban tramway through Manresa to link the town with Nou Congost and Sant Joan de Vilatorrada.

Bews e Ingerop has an 11-month contract worth €289 900 covering a proposed 144 km network linking Girona airport with resorts on the Costa Brava and Girona with Banyoles and Olot, including an urban tram network linking Girona with Santa Eugenia, Fontajau and Montilivi.

Meta Engineering has a €120 000 eight-month contract covering a proposed 57 km network linking Sant Julià de Lòria, Andorra la Vella and Escaldes-Engordany in Andorra with La Seu d’Urgell and Alp on the Puigcerdà – Barcelona railway.
